We then meandered down to the Gaelic Club, and met up with Simone and Hamish for the show.
Children Collide came on first, and they were really good... (poor quality shots from my BB)
Bright young and passionate, with a kick arse sound and a unique style. Perhaps some work could be done on the lyric front (a small suggestion: more than two lines per song, perhaps?), but it's pretty hard to argue with a band that is this good at getting an audience going and keeping them there!
Highlights for me were the tracks that had heaviest rotation on [triplej or fbi?] recently, probably during an album of the week or similar - both Social Currency and We are Amphibious were already etched in as classics in my mind, and were a genuine hoot live.
Fully pumped by the end of the set, there was some concern about the possibility of the Gurus set being an improvement, a concern unfortunately emphasised by the nature of the filling crowd...
The Hoodoo Gurus came on, and punched out some very high quality, album note perfect tracks - but were boring as bat poo. They looked like they should all be off at their Pitt Street Farms, ordering in another BMW X5. Perhaps our view had been coloured by our prejudices, but didn't seem worth staying, so Kristy, Ben and Stephe bolted, leaving Simone and Hamish to enjoy the balance of the gig...
