A very enjoyable night had by all, albeit a little late for a school week...
We arrived in disparate groups (Sue from a Board meeting, Matt off a plane, Peter some time later following a call from Matt, Sam with Stephe, once they'd collected a babysitter, and before collecting the boys from basketball, Kristy under her own steam, cool as a cucumber, as always).
We had an enjoyable dinner, with good company and wine, and finally managed to wander in and catch the Red Paintings doing their thing. It was very entertaining and interesting experience.
Kristy had scored tickets, which was A Good Thing, because by the night they had been 'sold out'.
The show was a massively dressed up, performance art caper - which sometimes overwhelmed the fact that the music was really quite good (without access to any of the albums, my experience is limited to the gig, and MySpace...). Appeared to be pretty thoroughly focused on the needs and ambitions of the lead singer (mostly in Medusa outfits, but with the second set in an octops suit), and with a secondary 'star' in the violinist (all geisha girl) - not sure what the band would think about it, but it seemed to us that everyone else was just in a supporting role.
Hard to describe (particularly writing this some time later!), but it was really quite a good gig.
Followed by a taxi ride to The Beauchamp (which was closed, for goodness sake!), a quick rejection from the daggiest pub on Oxford Street, and then settling into Kinselas for another few brews.
There were sore heads the next day....
A particularly poor photo of the lead singer here.
