A good crowd turned up at the Fox & Hound (or whatever it is called, in the Fox entertainment quarter, just around the corner from The Forum): Sue, Kristy, Ben, Rod, Gabbie, Brian and Stephe... Ben was unfortunately late, as he was treated very badly in promised and renigged upon transport arrangements, but he got over it.
Dinner was very mediocre (the original plan to go somewhere else was clearly a better option!).
Kristy, Ben and Stephe wandered over after a bite to eat to check out the dude from Girling's new side project, ELF - which was a sort of techno trance DJ set (and of only limited interest). However, the follow on support act, Children Collide were very cool indeed. Classic rock tunes with some very aggressive vocals - generally very up tempo, and some great guitar work. Th key potential issue was the fact that there was a degree of 'stylistic sameness' from one song to the next - but it was still a fairly good set.
Rejoining the others at the pub, we played a couple of games of pool (fairly mediocre performance all 'round!), with Kristy's emerging flu (and a bit of alcohol) decreasing her playing ability as the night wore on.
We then rocked up in time for the beginning of the Faker set.
Great, high energy show, but for mine, it started off with a relatively weak set of songs... The lead singer did indeed do a bunch of silly things on stage (many of them a little too 'managed'), and was *very* clearly pretty full of himself! But, he still kept the show rocking on. By the time we hit the last five songs, we were into wall to wall hits, and they nailed each of them - crowd fully engaged, and much happiness!
[although not clear that Sue, Brian and Gabbie were as enamoured of Faker as the rest of us]
